In 2009, the median age in the city was 24 (Half of the city\u2019s population is younger than the median age, and half is older). By way of comparison, Tel-Aviv and <st1:city w:st=\"on\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\">Haifa<\/st1:place><\/st1:city> are significantly older, with a median age of 34 and 38, respectively.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>The national median age for 2009 was 29. <\/div>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" style=\"line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" style=\"line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\"><st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Jerusalem<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>\u2019s population is so exceptionally youthful because it has a relatively high percentage of children in addition to its having an unusually low percentage of seniors (age 65+).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Almost half (42%) of <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Jerusalem<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>\u2019s population is of the ages 18 and under and merely 8% are aged 65 and older.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" style=\"line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" style=\"line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\">Of <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Jerusalem<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>\u2019s non-Ultra-Orthodox, Jewish neighborhoods, the youngest median ages per neighborhood were recorded in Har Homa (21), Givat Mordechai (23) and French Hill (26).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Conversely, the highest neighborhood median ages were recorded in Kiryat Wolfson (68), Nayot, Neve Geranot and Neve Sha\u2019anan (47) and Talbiye (45).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" style=\"line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" style=\"line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\">Among <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Jerusalem<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>\u2019s Ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods, the lowest neighborhood median ages were recorded in Kiryat Keminitz in Neve Yaakov (15), Ramat Shlomo (16), Me\u2019a Shearim and Batei Ungerin (16).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>The highest neighborhood median ages were found in Kenesset and Batei Broida (31), Sha\u2019arei Hesed (25), Har Nof and Bayit VeGan (20).<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" style=\"line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" style=\"line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\">A similar study of Arab neighborhoods could not be performed for lack of available data.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span><\/div>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" style=\"line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" style=\"line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\">The graph below shows that non-Ultra-Orthodox localities surrounding <st1:city w:st=\"on\">Jerusalem<\/st1:city> had a higher median age than in <st1:city w:st=\"on\">Jerusalem<\/st1:city>, while localities surrounding <st1:city w:st=\"on\">Jerusalem<\/st1:city> with large Ultra-Orthodox populations had a lower median age than in <st1:place w:st=\"on\"><st1:city w:st=\"on\">Jerusalem<\/st1:city><\/st1:place>. <\/div>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" style=\"line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<div style=\"clear: both; text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/--osTqWv8_lY\/TeIw6vtgl9I\/AAAAAAAADY8\/dAkUBYH6UMU\/s1600\/Median.jpg\" style=\"margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" border=\"0\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/--osTqWv8_lY\/TeIw6vtgl9I\/AAAAAAAADY8\/dAkUBYH6UMU\/s320\/Median.jpg\" width=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div dir=\"LTR\" style=\"line-height: 150%; text-align: justify;\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Michal Korach Jerusalem\u2019s population is particularly youthful.
